A Little Something to Consider…

A few weeks ago, I spent time at Kripalu, one of my favorite places in the Berkshires. I’ve been heading there for over a decade - always for rest, renewal, and learning.

During my latest stay, I started each morning with a walk through the forest to the lake, letting the cold air wake me up.

The lake was fully frozen, but it wasn’t still.

It groaned and echoed, deep sounds rolling beneath the ice like waves shifting in slow motion. The surface stayed rigid, but underneath, the lake stretched and settled, reshaping itself with each subtle movement. The ice swelled and released, rising and falling with a breath all its own.

Lakes make these sounds when frozen due to shifts in temperature. As the ice expands and contracts, it fractures, sending vibrations outward. These frequencies move faster through ice than air, distorting the sound into an eerie mix of deep groans and high-pitched chirps.

Thin ice sings in sharp tones, while thick ice drums with heavy reverberation.

Standing at the edge of the lake, I could feel the movement below—something shifting, adjusting, making space for itself.

Lately, water keeps showing up for me. Water moves and reshapes itself without resistance. It doesn’t fight change; it carries it.

While I was there, I took a resilience class where we practiced Riding the Wave.

Instead of tensing against discomfort, we learned to let it rise, crest, and pass.

My instinct has always been to hold on—to tighten, to resist, to brace, to push through.

But as we practiced softening into the experience, I started to understand resilience differently. It’s not about gritting my teeth through the hard moments, but trusting that they will move through me if I let them.

 What if true strength lies not in resisting, but in softening and allowing?

A Playlist for Joy & Flow

This short playlist has been my companion on my morning walks for the last week. It fills my cup, brings me joy, and reminds me that flow isn’t something we force. It’s something we allow.
